If you are selling a house and buying Mortgages

If you are selling a mortgages and buying another one, you may find yourself in a position where you have to wait for your purchaser to complete, whereas your new home is ready. You will therefore be put in the position of paying two mortgages at the same time for a short period. Unless you have enough spare cash to do this, you will have to take a mortgage loan . Interest rates on such loans vary. Shop around for a reasonable estimate, or hire a van and the services of some friends and do it yourself, it is much cheaper, and worth while if you are only moving a short distance.

All that is left now is for you to move in. ORGANISING THE MOVE Once you have rented or bought your home, and you have fixed a date for your occupation it is time to sort out the essential services -- gas, electricity, water, telephone. You will need to telephone the " various local offices (local to the place where you are going to live, not where you are now) and make sure that a telephone will be be read and that all the services will be connected and functioning when you arrive on the day. This can be difficult. If you have, for example, never been a telephone subscriber before (that is, even if you have had communal use of a telephone but it was not in your name) you will have to pay a new subscriber charge plus a connection charge.

If you want to organise your energy bills to be paid monthly instead of quarterly, tell the gas and electricity boards at this stage. If you need to have your gas fire or gas cooker connected when you arrive at your new place, make sure that you tell the gas board that you need someone there on the day. It may, in fact, be better to organise it for the day after you move, because being certain that everything will run according to plan on the day of the move is almost impossible, so it is better to do without your cooker overnight and schedule this for the next morning when you know you are definitely going to be there.

If you are moving from a place other than a shared home for which you had no personal responsibility, you will need to cancel the milk and newspapers for ever, and organise new deliveries at your new address.
